Ashley Luthern of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel looks at the direct costs of a shooting. It adds up to more than $700,000. $400,000 on prison.

    Yeah, but some of the cost savings has no doubt been negated by the consultants' fees!

    It seems to me that most of the costs are fixed, not variable.

    And of course the medical fees are kind of funny money. They can put whatever they want on their bills. I'd bet the reimbursement is much lower.

    I regard what happened to the perp as a happy ending, but it doesn't make up for all those costs.
